Last season, Drayton Entertainment revived Norm Foster’s Halfway There at their namesake venue in Drayton and I absolutely adored it.
So when I learned they were bringing it back this season, this time at their very stylish Cambridge location, I was quick to book tickets and bring friends along.
The show boasts the same cast of women, but the handsome doctor is now being played by Stratford Festival veteran Tyrone Savage who is arguably an improvement.
The performances have deepened and grown richer with time.
The three kibbitzing middle-aged friends who meet each afternoon at Juniors – Susie Burnett, Helen Taylor, and Karen Wood – play like a comedy trio who have been working together for years.
Rebecca Gibian as Janine, the comely waitress in Junior’s Diner who arouses the doctor’s interest, is especially impressive in this regard. The chemistry between her and Savage is palpable and adds immensely to the enjoyment of this very special – and very funny – romantic comedy.
Halfway There continues at the Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge through June 22, 2025. I strongly urge you to grab tickets before the run sells out by visiting the Drayton Entertainment website.
